I think that is important to be literate in all forms whether its traditional literacy in print or new literacy in technology. As a teacher, it is especially important to be literate in all forms so that you can effectively communicate with your students. Children now days use technology more than ever so it is especially important to be able to be able to connect with them on that same level. With that being said, it is still important for everybody to be able to be literate in print and to be able to use their language effectively and not rely on the new "texting" type language.

I would reiterate that being literate in all areas of communication is important. However, as the Youtube video made clear, media literacy is extremely important to today's learners. It is just as important that students be able to critically analyze the sources they are receiving their information from as it is that they comprehend the information itself. They must be critical consumers of all media, from advertisement to television programming to websites to newspapers. It will be interesting to see the new literacies which develop as technology develops.
